Will Trust High Girls Lift Their Six Consecutive Junior Championship Title?

Kampala, Uganda, June 27, 2016

Trust High School Girls will be looking for the 6th consecutive title when the Volleyball Junior Championship serves off this Saturday the 2nd of July at Hana Mixed Secondary School. Perhaps, St Bridget girls from Insigiro who are the current All-girls’ reigning champs may be the hardest bridge to cross for the record 5 time winners.  St Bridget’s coach Innocent believes his team that posts taller girls will have an edge over Kinaawa and Trust High his tightest rivals.

Boys defending champions St Mary’s Kitende who without their former inspiring star Malinga Cuthbert, now a senior six vacationer, will have to rely on their current captain Isaac Omongin to pull through their title defense.   They will also have to contend with new kids on the block Luyanzi College who beat them 3-1 at the Aporu Akol cup in Kumi last earlier this month.

President Nasiwu Sadik as part of his numerous innovations introduced this caliber of competition seven years ago with St Lawrence creamland hosting the inaugural.

The 8th Edition of National Junior volleyball championship sponsored by Mirinda will be played this weekend 2nd – 3rd July 2016 and is to feature several categories for boys’ and girls’ teams including Under-21 and Under-16 from secondary schools while the Under-14 and Under-12 will be drawn from primary schools.

To foster home grown talent UVF Schools commission Chief Edgar Karungi reiterated the regulation instituted years ago to limit fielding foreign players to only two per team. He also warned that any school that fields ineligible players will be sternly punished including direct action on individual teachers.

Expected top post primary teams include St Mary’s Kitende, Kinaawa High School, Kawempe Secondary School, Gayaza high School, Katikamu, St Joseph’s Nsambya, Nabisunsa Girls, St Bridget Insigiro, Namugongo SS, Mount St Mary’s Namagunga, Gombe SS, Iganga SS, Namagabi SS, Kawempe Muslims among others.
